History
From its humble beginnings in 1982, the event was created to keep visitors in town the weekend between the State Fair and Reno Championship Air Races. Since then it has grown from 20 hot-air balloons to close to 100. It is no longer just a placeholder, but rather a world-renowned and internationally recognized event.
Specialties
The Great Reno Balloon Race is the largest free hot-air ballooning event in the world. During three days in early September, you can look up into Reno's sky and see a rainbow of hot air balloons soaring about. The 2016 event takes place Septemeber 9--11.
