Desert Research Institute, founded in 1959, is a nonprofit research campus, and is governed by the Nevada Systems of Higher Education. The center provides environmental research and application technologies. It implements various services, such as fostering scientific technology for advancement and integration of terrestrial, hydrologic, atmospheric and anthropologic sciences. The institute also provides studies in earth's environment, promoting preservation of diverse ecosystems, advancing responsible resource management, and improving human health and welfare through scientific research work. The institute employs more than 500 faculty members, and conducts over 100 scientific projects. The organization has earned awards and recognitions, including the Jonathan O. Davis Scholarship in Quaternary Sciences, and George Burke Maxey Award in Water Resources Research. The institute is located in Reno, Nev.
