Established in 1925, Victoria Springs State Recreation Area in Anselmo, NE is the third oldest area in Nebraska’s state park system. Nestled 6 miles east of Anselmo or 7 miles north of Merna, the park is celebrated as an oasis in the Sand Hills region. The area spans 60 acres and derives its name from the mineral springs on-site, which were once renowned for their health benefits and commercial distribution.
The park boasts historic log cabins built by early pioneer and Custer County judge Charles R. Mathews, including the first post office in Custer County. Alongside these historical structures, visitors can enjoy modern amenities such as cabins, camping facilities, and a picturesque picnic area. Half of the campsites and two cabins are available for advance reservations, ensuring a stress-free visit to this tranquil retreat.
Victoria Springs State Recreation Area offers a range of recreational activities, including boating, fishing, and picnicking. The five-acre lake allows for non-powered craft and electric trolling motors, with ample opportunities for anglers to catch largemouth bass, bluegill, and catfish. Additionally, the park provides paddleboat rentals, making for a leisurely exploration of the serene surroundings. Whether seeking a peaceful getaway or outdoor adventure, Victoria Springs offers a harmonious blend of history and natural beauty.
