History
The Sykes name was attached to this building in 1935, but it served as a local grocery store for at least two decades before that time. In the late 40's, Cecil Sykes sold the store to his meat manager Doug Wise. Over the years, Doug expanded the grocery operation and built a new restaurant in the 70's. Sykes has always maintained a local, hometown charm where everyone is a friend. Doug and Judy Wise did a wonderful job of building a customer base that operates in many ways like a large family. Through local meat processing, grocery delivery, and a 10 cent cup of coffee, Sykes became more than a restaurant and a market, it was a place to belong. In the fall of 2010 after 60+ years of ownership, Doug and Judy sold Sykes to a local businessman Ray Thompson. After extensive renovation, the restaurant re-opened on October 4th, 2010 and the market re-opened November 4, 2011. We are committed to continuing the Sykes tradition of downhome cookin' and a friendly atmosphere.
