History
On the Rise Bread Co. was started by Kate Maxwell out of her backyard stonehearth oven well before artisan bread became a staple of the new American cuisine. Through the years, the bakery has changed hands a few times, while growing and refining its offering of traditional European artisan breads. Yet throughout our history, we have been grounded in the daily feeding of our sourdough starter, Mother, which remains the same some 20 years after its first rise.
