The Buxton family started off in the jewelry business in 1955 in Hamilton, Montana. Buxton Antiques operated on 1st Street in Hamilton for thirteen years specializing in estate, antique jewelry, antiques, and fine jewelry. My great grandfather and grandmother always had a love for fine gems.That love was passed down through our family's generation and still exists today.Eight years later we opened another store. Jem Shoppe was opened in Missoula, Montana and was managed by my father, grandfather, grandmother, and mother. Our dedication to our family has always showed with the passing down of the family business to the new generation.A little over a decade later we opened a second store in Missoula, becoming the only jewelry company with two locations in Missoula. Jem Shoppe Jewelers & Rare Coins was ran by my grandfather C.M. Buxton Jr. My father C.M. Buxton III continued running the Jem Shoppe in downtown Missoula.After serving five years in the United State Marine Corps I too got into the family business. I grew up in the business and was introduced to the jewelry business at a very early age, so the jewelry business always came natural to me. I was trained by my father and grandfather who had over 70 combined years of retail jewelry experience. I shadowed my grandfather for hundreds of appraisals and always was eager to learn. Later I took over ownership of my grandfather's store (Jem Shoppe Jewelers & Rare Coins). My grandfather recently passed in September of 2011. He was an inspiration to me and my family. I recently changed the name of the business to honor him - C.M. Buxton Jeweler & Rare Coins.Our SW Higgins location was in the same location for about 13 years. I have recently expanded and moved to the "Hip Strip" (across the street from the Missoulian and three doors up from Ciao Mambo). We pride ourselves on being the experts.
