Adventure Cycling Association, founded in 1973, was originally known as Bikecentennial. It is one of the leading nonprofit organizations dedicated to bicycle travel and aims to inspire people of all ages to travel by bicycle. The organization offers many programs for cyclists, including a national network of bicycle touring routes and organized trips. The organization supports various bicycling communities and its projects include Pedal Pioneers that is a free, comprehensive tool for educators and youth leaders to organize their own youth bicycle adventures. Adventure Cycling has created many routes, such as the underground railroad bicycle route, Great Divide Canada, Tidewater Potomac Heritage, Lake Erie Connector and the Lewis and Clark Bicycle Trail. The organization has more than 42,000 members throughout the United States and offers lifetime and corporate membership programs. It is based in Missoula, Mont.
