History
We purchased 147 acres of farmland and timber in 1998 and named it Ozark Highlands Farm in honor of our Scottish heritage. For the first several years, we raised chickens, goats, and horses in addition to offering a quaint, hand-built stone cottage for rent. We later joined the Top Notch Farms crop-sharing family growing corn, soy beans, and winter wheat. In 2013, we listed our flagship Cottage to the AirBnB network and in 2015 added 60 adjoining acres of farmland and made two more lodging units available via Airbnb. In 2016, we completed remodeling the Milk House into a cozy cottage for two. Currently, we can sleep a total of 28 people at all four units for family reunions, staff get-a-ways, and small group retreats. We especially love sharing rural life with vacationers from the city whose children often have not seen where milk and eggs come from.
Specialties
For less than the price of a typical motel, our cottages (near the intersection of I-44 & 49 south of Carthage, MO) provide a very unique, peaceful setting for relaxing, refreshing, and recharging while in the SW MO market area. Each unit is a great place for creating, praying, romancing, or just resting. Additionally, Stirling Cottage is ideal for staff retreats or family gatherings. Children can milk a goat, feed a horse, and harvest their own brown eggs for breakfast. We prefer to book our guests through AirBnB(dot)com (search Carthage, MO). Prices vary depending on the size of each cottage. (Full disclosure: we do not serve breakfast at the cottages. We do provide a fresh loaf of homebred bread and farm-fresh eggs harvested from our own hens which can be used whenever our guest want to prepare their breakfast.)
