Founded in 1995, Smithton Middle School serves more than 850 students in grades six and seven. Its academic curriculum includes various subjects, such as math, science, social studies and language arts. The school offers various elective programs in art, band, choir, drama and orchestra. It also conducts sessions in industrial technology, computer education, and family and consumer science. In addition, the school provides foreign language sessions in Spanish and French. It also provides guidance and counseling services to its students. The school has a parent-teacher-student association that supports several school events and activities. Its facility has a media center that offers a collection of encyclopedias, newspapers, magazines and information databases. Located in Columbia, Mo., the school is a part of Columbia Public Schools, which operates several elementary, middle and high schools.
