El Pollo Loco, which opened in May 2009, bills itself as a healthier alternative to the usual burger fare. The fast-food chain features seasoned, marinated chicken grilled over an open flame and served hot with warm tortillas and four types of freshly made salsa ranging from mild to hot. El Pollo Loco (that's Spanish for the crazy chicken) is located near the Lemay Ferry Road entrance to South County Center.
In addition to chicken, the restaurant serves made-to-order grilled burritos and other Mexican food, with side dishes such as rice, beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, fries and macaroni and cheese. The south-of-the-border inspired dining room is spacious and inviting, decorated in warm reds and golds. There is a small patio for outside dining and also a drive-through.
