The Office of the Cole County Sheriff is a law enforcement agency that protects residents lives, property and individual rights and maintains peace and order. It serves various writs, processes, orders, subpoenas and other civil papers for local courts and other county and state departments. The Office of the Cole County Sheriff supports Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.), which is an international education program that seeks to prevent the usage of illegal drugs, gang activities and violent behavior. The sheriff s office maintains a patrol division that responds to calls for service, conducts initial and follow-up investigations, investigates traffic accidents, and controls traffic and crowds at crime scenes.
