Founded in 1959, the Tri-City Regional Port District is a local government s unit that deals in economic development of southwestern Illinois. It maintains a staff of engineers and planners who plan and design various projects. The port provides rail switching, docking, fleeting and warehousing services. The Tri-City Regional Port District operates River s Edge Telecommunications, which offers voice and data services. Its dry and liquid bulk terminals handle grains and liquid and by-products. The port manages more than 150 housing units at River s Edge, as well as transfers over 3 million tons of products annually. Its tenants include harbor and warehouse operators and service providers. The port partners with the city of Granite City, Ill. and Inland Rivers Ports & Terminals.
