History
The building that houses Soulard Bastille is over 150 years old, and has been a bar/tavern for over 100 years of that. It has also served as a grocery, barber shop, diner, funeral parlor (2nd floor), and private residences (2nd and 3rd floors). The bar features the eclectic collections and tastes of it's owner, including record-album lined bathrooms, sci-fi robots, pop culture icons, Soulard's best light show, a game room with games in-play on all walls and ceiling, and the original funeral parlor sign. Over the last few years, Soulard Bastille has gained popularity in the Saint Louis community as one of the premiere gay bars. A destination for those traveling through and locals alike, the bar attracts all walks of life: from 20-somethings to Stonewall contemporaries, Males to Females to Transgendered, and LBGT to Straight to Humanist -- All are welcome at Soulard Bastille.
