This extensive, rambling park is yet another jewel in the crown of the city's parks system. Edging up to the banks of the Meramec River, this park offers a handful of large picnic pavilions, several well-equipped playgrounds, loads of parking, at least two soccer fields and scenic overlooks of the river. There is also a ramp leading down to the river. Woods and winding paths with benches alongside make this a place to pass a dreamy day. On the other hand, there is plenty to do along the river on what was once called the Minnie Ha Ha beach. The park's name, Minnie Ha Ha, is said to mean "laughing water" in the Dakota language. It is also said to be the name of Hiawatha's wife, according to an 1855 poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. During the week, look for the rebuilding of a bridge crossing the river into Fenton.
