Ava Map
Ava is the only incorporated city in Douglas County, Missouri, United States. The population was 3,021 at the 2000 census. Ava is the county seat of Douglas County. The city was founded in 1871 and was named Ava after being renamed from the town's original name, Militia Springs, which was too difficult for residents to pronounce.
Ava is located at 36°57?19?N 92°39?47?W / 36.95528°N 92.66306°W / 36.95528; -92.66306 (36.955176, -92.663114). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.1 square miles (8.0 km²), all of it land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 3,021 people, 1,350 households, and 764 families residing in the city. The population density was 973.0 people per square mile (376.3/km²). There were 1,493 housing units at an average density of 480.9 per square mile (186.0/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 96.79% White, 0.13% African American, 0.66% Native American, 0.43% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.26% from other races, and 1.69% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.36% of the population.
