The Minnesota Department of Transportation, also known as Mn/DOT, was created by the State Legislature in 1976. The department develops and implements policies, plans and programs for aeronautics, highways, motor carriers, ports, public transit and railroads. It also maintains working relationships with various public and private individuals, groups and associations involved in transportation. The Minnesota Department of transportation s office of motor carrier services administers and enforces regulation governing the for-hire and private motor carrier industry within Minnesota. The department also maintains a statewide system plan for bicycle transportation. In addition, it regulates limousines and vehicles that transport elderly and disabled individuals.
