The Minnesota Department of Transportation Office of Aeronautics provides services related to the state s aviation activities. The department is a division of the state government. It is divided into several units that focus on aircraft registration, education, airport development, aviation operations, aviation licensing, planning and zoning, navigation systems and commercial airports. The office administers state and federal funds for municipal airport development, maintenance and operation; regulates, inspects and licenses aviation operations; enforces statutes and rules relating to aviation; and registers aircraft and assists communities with aviation planning and service issues. It also provides radio and video navigational aids and electrical and lighting systems, collects and disseminates weather information for pilots, disseminates aviation education and safety information, conducts programs to promote aviation and furnishes air transportation services for state officials and employees performing official business. The Minnesota Department of Transportation Office of Aeronautics is located in St. Paul, Minn.
