Located in Minneapolis, Sabathani Community Center serves African-American youth in south Minneapolis and was founded in 1966. It develops various empowerment programs that focus on skill development. The community center is a settlement house for the area's immigrants and refugees, including Somalis, Chicanos, Latinos, Southeast Asians and Russians. Its life skills center prepares adults more than 16 years of age for work through general education development and college trade examination preparation, tutoring and citizenship classes. The center s family resource program offers various services, including clothing, food, transitional housing, case management, and acquisition and redistribution of used furniture, appliances and household items. Its hurricane Katrina relief effort program provides a wide variety of support services to more than 175 families, including long-term case management, recovery, financial assistance, housing stabilization and employment assistance. Additionally, it provides temporary rentals of office spaces.
