History
Jim Gerholdt, a Zookeeper for over 25 years, is a founding member of the Minnesota Herpetological Society. For 26 years he taught classes at the Science Museum of Minnesota on reptiles and amphibians along with assorted invertebrates. He has written 32 books for children on such topics as insects, reptiles, amphibians, snakes, spiders and birds. His enjoyment of showing and teaching children in these programs is always evident and the children respond to his openness and friendly demeanor. His experience, expertise and professional photography have been utilized by many professional associations and groups and publications. He also works closely with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and has served on committees as a member and advisor to help prevent the extinction of threatened reptiles both within and without the US.
Specialties
The Remarkable Reptiles, educational programs and presentations by Jim Gerholdt, has been presenting programs throughout the Twin Cities metro area, as well as outstate Minnesota since 1982. Our typical clientele are: schools, libraries, churches, nature centers, scout groups, most often used for educational purposes, civic events, group learning and birthday parties. Live display and even touching, and sometimes holding, a Boa Constrictor is an example. Snakes, Lizards and Turtles are included in our programs. Remarkable Reptiles educational programs also include Artifacts such as Shells, Skins and Skulls. These programs have proven very popular amongst children of all ages.
