History
Started in 1997 with an Inuit skin-on-frame kayak building class, the instructor Mark Hansen saw an opportunity for perpetuating traditional skills while building strong community through hands-on learning. North House Folk School's first course catalog included only 26 classes and the school had no campus facility. Now with a campus on the shores of Lake Superior with 6 dedicated classrooms and a slate of over 350 courses year round, the school continues to grow and flourish through a dedicated community of instructors and students.
