Bakers Square is a restaurant chain recognized for its award-winning pie. The company has won first place in the National Pie Championships multiple times for its production of several different types, which includes French silk, apple, lemon, strawberry, caramel pecan and others. With more than 150 locations in the Upper Midwest, including St. Cloud, Minn., and eateries in California, Bakers Square also serves breakfast items, such as omelets and skillets. Traditional sandwiches and new-age meals are served during lunch and dinner. The company began as a single shop in Des Moines, Iowa, under the name Poppin Fresh Pies, but since VICORP acquired the business in the early 1980s, it has been operated under its present name.
