Established in 1891, Animal Humane Society is an independent, nonprofit organization that is operated by more than 130 full- and part-time employees. Located in Golden Valley, Minn., the Animal Humane Society offers boarding facilities for various pets, including dogs, cats, birds, turtles, fish, reptiles and rodents. It offers an open-admission facility that accepts homeless, distressed and unwanted animals. The organization receives more than 23,000 animals annually, such as rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, parakeets, hamsters, gerbils, farm animals and exotic pets. It offers adoption services that include providing permanent homes to various homeless animals, including dogs, puppies, cats, kittens, rabbits and ferrets. Additionally, the organization offers educational programs through the Latham Foundation and pet training classes. Its services also include pet grooming, lost animal assistance, euthanasia and cremation, spay and neuter services, medical assistance, wildlife placement and veterinary student clinical training.
