The West Bloomfield Township Public Library was awarded in December 2010 as one of 10 recipients of the 2010 National Medal for Museum and Library Service, the nation’s highest honor for museums and libraries. The WBTPL reopened its expanded Westacres library in 2001 and is governed by an elected six-member Board of Trustees. The current President of the board is Ken Macon.
Librarians are available to answer questions by phone, in person, online, and through text message. Twenty computer workstations — including Microsoft Office software, Internet access, DVD-ROM and CD-ROM drives — are available to use along with desks wired for internet access. Cubbyholes filled with books and stuffed toys, Reading House, and light-up panels are popular attractions for young visitors. The Friends' Terrace is an inviting space for warm weather reading and relaxation, while fireplaces inside keep even the coldest readers warm.
