The Washtenaw County Prosecuting Attorney protects the rights, safety and the security of persons within the boundaries of the county through the enforcement of state laws mandated by state constitution and statutes. Located in Ann Arbor, Mich., it is responsible for felonies and misdemeanors charged under the state laws. The prosecuting attorney also undertakes cases related to juvenile delinquency proceedings, the terminations of parental rights for abuse and neglect of children and mental health commitments. The Washtenaw County Prosecuting Attorney maintains a criminal division that handles the prosecution of criminal violations of Michigan laws and the ordinances of the University of Michigan.
