Back in 1953, when a floor lamp only cost $16, John VanDrie opened a small store in the town of McBain, Mich. He sold products from the furniture, appliance, electronic and floor covering industries and worked closely with vendors such as La-Z-Boy, Bassett, Spring Air Mattresses, Hotpoint and Armstrong. In 1972, VanDrie Home Furnishings incorporated when its present owner, Gerard Winkle, joined the business. Just two years later, the company opened another store in Cadillac, Michigan and a third location was opened in Houghton Lake, Mich., in 1978. Eight years later, a new chapter was opened when the McBain location closed and a new store was opened in Big Rapids, Mich. The family-owned and operated VanDrie Home Furnishings is proudly serving customers within a 200-mile radius of the Cadillac corporate headquarters location. It employs more than 100 employees, stocks more the $4 million worth of inventory and makes approximately 50 deliveries per day, six days a week.
