Established in 1849, Michigan State Fair features a variety of fair and nonfair events. The fair includes Show Jumping Horse and DEC Indoor Horse shows. It also features various zone championships. The fair conducts the Detroit Gun and Knife Show. Additionally, it organizes building materials auction. Michigan State Fair maintains Detroit Equestrian Club and Michigan Youth Livestock Scholarship Fund. The fair operates agriculture, beef, dairy, goat, swine, rabbit, and pigeon and poultry departments. Its sponsors include Bluegreen Vacations Unlimited, Big Boy and Chrysler Corporation. Michigan State Fair is operated by the State of Michigan, which governs agriculture, civil rights, education, information technology and community health departments.
