Established in 1787, the Muskegon County Sheriff's Office is structured into patrol, marine and support services divisions. Its patrol division provides law enforcement services to more than 70,000 people living in unincorporated areas throughout the county and features over 400 traffic officers who patrol the secondary roads and investigate fatal traffic accidents. Located in Muskegon, Mich., the sheriff s office manages a jail that houses nearly 350 inmates and has approximately 45 correctional officers. The Muskegon County Sheriff's Office s marine division patrols the area around the Lake Michigan and inland waters during the summer season. The sheriff's office also offers security warrants and transports inmates to the Michigan Department of Corrections.
