History
The gallery opened, in the fall of 2008 in the Willy's Overland Lofts building, as one small gallery. It has since expanded to a second gallery space. The function of each room is different in that the Exhibition Space contains the work of one or two accomplished local and national artists; in rotation every 6 weeks. While the Commercial Gallery and Design Store showcases a collection of quality works by different artists and designers, with new works introduced on a weekly basis.
Specialties
Under the direction of Founder and artist Simone DeSousa, Re:View Contemporary is the expression of a group of collaborators who seek to foster creativity in various media including visual arts, design, and writing. Exhibiting artists have an opportunity to discuss their work through gallery talks and interviews by Re:View's writer. Re:View's Web site and blog are extensions of the physical gallery spaces, offering a forum for ongoing discussion of the works exhibited in the gallery, arts and cultural events in the community and more. Utilizing the web to extend Re:View's presence and impact invites others to think again about the art presented in the gallery and in our community. In its multi layered approach, Re:View seeks to not only be a space to host quality contemporary art exhibits, but also to foster the social dialogue inspired by the arts and to challenge the community to think again--about art, about Detroit, about what inspires us.
