History
The museum, housed in a 1904 Maccabee Society building, presents the history of Port Austin, Grindstone City and Port Crescent. Exhibits include early area industries, shipping, agriculture and homemaking; the Great Thumb Fire of 1881; Native Americans in the Thumb; and the Port Austin Reef Lighthouse. The wooded grounds feature walking trails and several other historic buildings, including a log cabin and log barn, a 19th century Grindstone City house, and a 1950's barbershop. Special events include an annual quilt show, speaker series and traditional craft classes.

The Port Austin History Center collects, preserves and presents the history of the greater Port Austin Area.
