Oxford Academy was founded in 2008, but employs the centuries-old Montessori method of teaching. The academy offers toddler, primary and elementary education as well as before-school and after-school childcare. The Oxford elementary curriculum includes instruction in language arts, math, physical science, geography, biology, history and grammar. Students learn violin twice a week from a Suzuki certified instructor and one hour of kung fu with a master instructor. French is offered to all students from ages 3 through elementary. Oxford Academy students are also encouraged to explore and learn in the school's "backyard classroom." Encompassing some 10 acres of land, the backyard classroom gives students the opportunity to learn about nature and practice life skills such as gardening.
