History
In 1996, Oshtemo Township, Kalamazoo Public Library, and a volunteer staff set up a book station to determine interest in branch library services. The station moved to the old Hurd School on W. Main St. and was formally designated a branch library in 1973. The current branch library opened November 1, 1997. Designed to appeal to children and the young at heart, it features colorful, basic geometric forms. The 18,000 sq. ft. building sits on a ten-acre prairie planted with native grasses and flowers that adjoins the Oshtemo Township Park.
