Located in Royal Oak, Mich., Oakland Community College is a coeducational college that enrolls more than 46,000 students and was established in 1965. It offers a wide variety of academic programs in nursing, theater, journalism, landscape technology, food services, graphic and commercial art, German, English, drafting, architecture, and physical education and recreation. The college has more than two student-operated restaurants at the Orchard Ridge campus in Farmington Hills, Mich., and its restaurants are part of the Culinary Studies Institute. The college is a member of the Michigan Community College Athletic Association and offers a variety of athletic facilities, such as a swimming pool, gymnasium and basketball court. Its athletic activities include swimming, cross country, volleyball, soccer, tennis, softball, basketball, golf, baseball, bowling, ice hockey and wrestling. The college is approved by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and is a member of the American Association of Community Colleges.
