History
We started selling books on the web first, and in 2000 we opened the bookshop on Ann Street, later moving the N. 4th Ave location in 2006. Hunting and selling used book and rare books is always an adventure, and we've had a few. We've sold used books to the library of the Houses of Parliament, the Smithsonian, the British Library, the Prado, and the Bibliotheque Nationale. We've returned stolen manuscripts to European royalty, turned up one of a kind pamphlets on Michigan history, and sold an original edition of the Book of Mormon. We've sold used books to governors and movie stars, but also to grandmothers looking for presents and history buffs looking for the interesting books they don't already have. We enjoy our interactions with customers and look forward everyday to see what comes up next.
Specialties
As a used and rare bookshop with both common and antiquarian books, our job is to recommend the best books that match your reading and collecting needs, not the newest, or the oldest, or the most expensive. We focus on American and European history, Books About Books, children's books, and scholarly titles, but we have 10,000 rare and used books in all subjects, with over 2,400 catalogued on our site in over 50 catalogs. New arrivals are always listed here before we post them to the internet bookselling sites. To keep our stock interesting and growing, we buy individual used books or entire libraries across our region. Also, when you visit our shop and choose 2 of our books, you get a 3rd book priced $12 or less free, each and every day, any quantity. We are one of the few remaining booksellers in our area who perform appraisals for estate, donation, or insurance purposes. See links to to your left for more information. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions or if are looking for a hard to find book.
