Just outside of Lansing, Michigan a slow, meandering river cuts through the quaint town of Williamston, showcasing a park that caters to families who love the outdoors and exploring beautiful neighborhoods. Located between the Red Cedar River and Williamston's downtown, McCormick Park is home to a spacious playground, walking and biking trail, farmer's market and summer concert series.
While more events and activities occur in the Spring and Summer months, the park always has visitors regardless of the season.
Parking and Public Transportation at McCormick Park
There is no shortage of free public parking near McCormick Park. The park has its own parking lot with additional lots located across the street, behind the downtown businesses. There are no meters, fees or hourly requirements.
The Capital Area Transportation Authority (CATA) has a bus route that runs Monday through Saturday from the Meridian Mall in Okemos to McCormick Park in Williamston.
If you plan to stay in Lansing, I recommend driving the 19 miles to McCormick Park rather than taking the bus. It's a faster route and there's free parking available.
Best and Worst Time to Go to McCormick Park
The best time to visit McCormick Park is in the Spring and Summer seasons. The Farmer's Market is open every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and boasts baked goods, fresh produce, arts and crafts and more. Every Thursday in June and August the Williamston Summer Concert Series highlights local talent in the park's bandshell.
Winter is the park's most bleak season, with the river frozen over and bitter cold temperatures keeping visitors away.
Admission to McCormick Park
McCormick Park is easily accessible and free to enter.
Must Do at McCormick Park
The park is at its best on a Sunday afternoon during the Farmer's Market. Pick up some lunch at a local vendor with some ice cream for dessert, from the MSU Dairy Truck, and enjoy free music from a local band while the kids play on the playground.

If you're stopping by the Farmer's Market, find the Market Manager's booth and ask about her donkeys. She's got a great game for the kids that will keep them engaged and entertained.
