Welcome to Grace Episcopal Church We are part of the 78-million member Anglican communion and trace our history to the beginnings of Christianity. The Episcopal Church was planted in America by the Church of England in the colonies of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The earliest known celebrations of the Eucharist in North America by Anglicans were near San Francisco, California, in 1579, by Sir Francis Drake's chaplain, and in 1607 at Jamestown, Virginia. The liturgy we use today is essentially the same as then and retains its ancient structure and traditions. The General Convention is made up of the House of Bishops and the House of Deputies. It authors (and continues to amend) the Church's Constitution, the Book of Common Prayer, rules for the ratification of bishops, and through its canonical actions, rules for the governance of the Church.
