GiGi Sutton is a Certified Nurse Midwife. She received her associate of applied science in nursing degree from Monroe County Community College and continued her studies at Eastern Michigan University where she obtained a bachelor of science in nursing degree. She then received her master of science in nursing degree from the University of Michigan in Nurse Midwifery. Sutton comes from a family of labor and delivery nurses and so women’s health and birth have always been a part of her life. During her time as a labor and delivery nurse her passion for working with and educating patients grew which pushed her to pursue a degree as a Certified Nurse Midwife. She looks forward to providing personalized care and helping patients from menarche through menopause. Sutton has years of experience as a registered nurse in adult and pediatric general medicine, adult surgical care, and women’s health, with a majority of her experience in labor and delivery. She has been team leader in the Labor, High Risk, and Postpartum unit and the night shift operating room. Sutton has been a preceptor and has experience in orienting and leading new staff. She has also been a member of a breastfeeding support team where she facilitated and supported breastfeeding/pumping initiation and continuation through assistance to staff nurses and patients as an adjunct to lactation consultant staff. Sutton is a member of the Michigan Nurses Association, the Association of Women’s Health (Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses), the American College of Nurse Midwives, and the Nurses for Sexual and Reproductive Health advocacy. She is certified in Neonatal Resuscitation and Nexplanon insertion and removal. She joined Oaklawn in 2022.
