The Drayton Avenue Cooperative Preschool is one of the oldest in Michigan, having served since 1950. A cooperative preschool means that parental involvement is key and imperative. There are only two paid staff members that work closely with a number of parents. The parents help out in the form of washing toys, working in the class room and even making playdough.
The preschool serves 2-year-olds to 4-year-olds in a play-based model of instruction. The school is full at 48 students and tuition varies from $250 a year for the 2-year-old tot program to $900 a year for the 4-year-old program.
The preschool is located behind the Drayton Avenue Presbyterian Church and has no affiliation beyond renting the space.
