Dr. Deepa Taggarshe is a colon and rectal surgeon who is board certified in general surgery and Colon and Rectal surgery. Her practice involves taking care of patients with colon and rectal cancer, diverticular disease, fecal incontinence, polyps, inflammatory bowel disease and anorectal conditions. She specializes in minimally invasive approaches, sphincter sparing procedures and uses newer technologies for better patient care. She offers screening and diagnostic colonoscopy. She believes in patient centered care. Dr. Taggarshe obtained her medical degree from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore. She did her basic surgical training in England and obtained membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. She then spent two years in the lab of Professor Andrew Wyllie at University of Cambridge doing research in colorectal cancer. She was successful in obtaining her M Phil from University of Cambridge. She then moved to the US to pursue her surgical training. She did her surgical residency at St. John Hospital & Medical Center and Providence-Providence Park Hospital. She completed her fellowship in Colon and Rectal surgery at the University of Buffalo. She has been an Assistant Professor in Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. Taggarshe is a member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and The Association of Women Surgeons. She serves on committees of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and the Association of Women Surgeons. Her area of interest in research has been with colorectal cancer. She has presented at national conferences, won awards for her research and has numerous publications in colorectal cancer and surgical education.
