The Michigan Department of Corrections oversees prisons and other correctional facilities in the state of Michigan. The department operates more than 40 prison facilities, over 10 camps and a Special Alternative Incarceration program, composing approximately 50,000 inmates. It provides a variety of viable sentencing and sanctioning options for judges and other criminal justice administrators. The Michigan Department of Corrections offers probation supervision to convicted offenders in accordance with various Circuit Courts. The department includes correctional facilities and field operations administration, operations support, and planning and community development divisions.
