We are looking at many changes across the Church of the Nazarene and on Michigan District. At our district assembly last year, I talked a great deal about change. I informed our delegates that a Vision Team was being formed that would look hard and seriously at how we function as a district, to assess what changes need to be made so that we function more effectively and more missionally. Our task as a district is to serve and resource our local churches. We must do better. That is why the Vision Team was formed. Nothing is beyond the scope of their study, review and consideration including the superintendency, our departments, boards and ministries. The work of the team will not be accomplished in one year but it is off to a good start and, in the end, I believe we will see a great leap forward in our effectiveness for God and the kingdom. Sponsored by the Vision Team, on May 14 a strategically important gathering of leaders will be held in the training center at the district office in Grand Ledge. It is a "Changing the Climate" conference and it is imperative that every pastor and selected key lay persons be present. I believe it will start us on a path of positive transformation in our service to God as Michigan District. If we are to be a district of local churches focused on reaching their communities for Christ in new ways, boldly taking risks, fearless in their call to holiness of heart, living authentic lives that will draw people to Christ, then as a district we must take a hard look at what we do and how to encourage such intentional missional churches. "Changing the Climate" will help us grapple with these missional issues. Pray even now for this important event that God will help us be the district He wants us to be as we strive to make Christlike disciples across Michigan District.
