Bishop Park runs along the Detroit River. A boardwalk is available for sightseeing and a large fishing pier is popular among the anglers in the summer. The 12.2 acre park also has a concession stand, open picnic areas, two picnic shelters, restrooms, playground equipment and basketball courts. Pets, bicycles, skateboards, rollerblades and alcohol are banned in all city parks.

Arboreta and botanical gardens

Teifer Park

Teifer Park sits on about three acres and includes a large community building, playground equipment, basketball and inline skating rink, as well as a lighted ball diamond with dugouts and bleachers. The community building has kitchen facilities, restrooms and a gathering room. As with all city parks, alcohol is not permitted.

Optimist Park

The Fred Pieper Optimist Park is a somewhat newer park to the Royal Oak area, founded in 1988 and still kept as one of the more aesthetically pleasing parks. The flowers and landscaping are well-maintained, including around the sign itself, and the quiet, residential park boasts a full playground in addition to swing sets, picnic amenities and a large field for recreation.

Grant Park

Grant Park is a large recreational park used by local schools for sporting events. The park also contains a playgrounds for non-school related uses. The sporting areas include one baseball diamond, two tennis courts and two soccer fields; each soccer field includes boundaries and goals. One soccer field is appropriately sized for pee wee players, and the other for junior players. The playground includes a large play structure in a bordered sand pit.
