The 27th District Court has jurisdiction over matters that occur within the City of Wyandotte and the City of Riverview.
Besides presiding over legal matters, the court also runs a work force and a court-in-the-schools program.
The work force allows non-violent offenders an opportunity to work off their criminal sentence in lieu of serving jail time. The school program allows students to see real-time cases being heard and decided upon in their school gymnasiums. It gives the students an up close look at the judicial system, while also reinforcing the real-time consequences for criminal behavior.
In 2008, the court moved from its longtime spot at the corner of Biddle and Ford to its new, spacious, state-of-the-art facility south of Ford. It shares the 17,000-square-feet glass-front building with the Wyandotte Police Department.
