The Yarmouth Fire Department has three fire stations to protect the residents and businesses of Yarmouth, Mass. Its response time goal is to arrive at the scene within six minutes of receiving a call. The department makes nearly 6,000 runs per year and has more than 20 trained paramedics on staff. Its goal is to respond to any fire with a minimum of three fire companies, an ambulance, at least 12 firefighters and a chief officer. In addition to fire suppression and emergency medical services, the department provides fire prevention services, public education, fire investigation, technical rescue and hazardous material responses. It reviews all commercial development and rehabilitation proposals to ensure compliance with the Massachusetts State Fire Code and performs on-site inspections prior to the issuance of occupancy permits. It issues permits for a variety of activities, including commercial fuel storage of more than 20 gallons.
