University of Massachusetts Lowell is one of the leading providers of higher education in the United States. Formerly known as the Lowell Normal School, the university was formed by the merger of Lowell State College and Lowell Technological Institute. It has been operational for more than 90 years, and enrolls over 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students. University of Massachusetts provides various intercollegiate, intramural and recreational sports programs, such as basketball, cheerleading, golf, track and field, cross-country, baseball, tennis, badminton, swimming, soccer and softball.
