St. John's is an Episcopal church on Beacon Hill with a beautiful and unexpected sanctuary hidden behind a castle-like exterior. The church was built in 1831 and operated as a monastery until 1985 when it was transformed into an Episcopal parish.
The church is socially progressive and liturgically traditional. St. John's describes itself as an inclusive worshipping community and has many programs reaching out to the homeless, the lesbian, gay and bisexual communities.
Mass is held at 10:30am every Sunday. St. John's hosts free concerts featuring classically-trained musicians on Wednesdays at 5:30pm. These are open to the public.
On Saturdays and Sundays the church is the host to a soup kitchen.
If you have any questions or if you would like be included in the rotation of (lay) officiants, please contact the Parish Secretary through the church office.
