The Norton Fire Department offers arson investigation and emergency medical services for a population of more than 20,000 residents. Its service area is spread over nearly 25 square miles and includes a college, municipal wastewater treatment plant, public schools, and industrial and commercial buildings. The department provides advanced life support paramedic, fire suppression, and underwater, technical and confined space rescue services. It also handles highway accidents, explosions and hazardous material mitigation issues. The Norton Fire Department investigates brush, car, residential and commercial fires, as well as provides and installs fire alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in homes and commercial facilities. Additionally, it conducts public awareness sessions and rescue training workshops for high school students.
