Nidec America is the United States-based customer support arm of the Nidec Tokyo company. Its cooling fans and brushless DC motors are used throughout the world on a multitude of consumer, commercial and industrial electronic equipment. Nidec manufactures and produces research and development solutions, manufacture and sales of musical movement, control equipment, electronics equipment, industrial machinery and equipment, optical equipment, medical equipment, production systems and related software. Nidec was founded in the 1970s in Japan. The fledgling company struggled until it broke the U.S. market in the late seventies. With this as a turning point, Nidec rapidly extended its global reach beyond the U.S. into Asia and Europe, which established a foothold on the world stage just three years after its founding. Nidec expanded its product lineup from small precision AC motors to brushless DC motors and cooling fans. In 1979, it became the first company worldwide to put spindle motors into practical use in 8-inch-diameter hard disk drives. Nidec America has corporate headquarters in Torrington, Conn., and a sales, design and administrative center in Norwood, Mass.
