Founded 32 years ago, the Middlesex Human Service Agency is located in the building at Prospect and Vernon Streets. Its charter is to assist those in need dealing with substance abuse and other issues by providing services in the areas of prevention, intervention and treatment.
The Middlesex Human Service Agency operates a variety of facilities and programs. One its programs is the Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol Program, which is designed to offer an alternative to sending people to jail. Facilities it runs include Waltham's "Mary's House", a shelter for homeless families, and the Bristol Lodge Soup Kitchen.
