The Board of Selectmen is a department administered by the Town of Mansfield in Massachusetts, which has a population of more than 23,000 citizens. The board is the chief policy-making body for the municipal government. It formulates policies for the protection of citizens from fire, crime, natural disasters and other emergencies. The Board of Selectmen determines the salaries of town officers and officials. It also handles the appointment of town manager. The board maintains job classification, description and compensation grade systems. It additionally appoints the board of health, council on aging, industrial development finance authority, building and finance committees, and airport, recreation and conservation commissions.
