"Lekker" is the Dutch word for alluring, enticing, great, attractive and tempting. It is also the name of a housewares store on Washington Street that sells stark, minimalist housewares and furniture.
Lekker was one of the first upscale shops to open when the SOWA district began blossoming, and it has remained a popular neighborhood fixture. Featuring cherry-picked, funky furnishings and housewares from all over the world, Lekker is both elegant and surprisingly affordable. Owner Natalie van Dijk Carpenter is originally from the Netherlands but also spent time living in Paris and New York before coming to Boston; a worldly sensibility permeates the store.
